Introduction

As of February 1, 2012, Genesys is no longer an affiliate of Alcatel-Lucent; any indication of such affiliation within Genesys products or packaging is no longer applicable. Please see the Genesys website at http://www.genesys.com for more details.

This release note applies to all 8.1 releases of Genesys Driver for Use with Twitter.

• Links in the Contents section enable you to access information regarding a specific release. Releases are listed by version number rather than in date order. For this reason, a recent release may be listed after earlier releases, if the version number is lower. Except when otherwise noted in the information for a specific release, each release includes all of the features and corrections that were introduced for the applicable operating system at earlier dates, regardless of the version numbering.
• The Release Number table lists the supported operating systems for each release at a high level. For more detailed information, see the Genesys Supported Operating Environment Reference Guide.
• The Known Issues and Recommendations section is a cumulative list. It includes information on when individual items were found and, if applicable, corrected.
• The Corrections and Modifications section for each release may list additional issues that were corrected without first being documented as Known Issues.
• The Discontinued Support section is cumulative. It lists functionality that is no longer supported and the release number of the version in which support was discontinued.

Genesys follows applicable third-party redistribution policies to the extent that Genesys solutions utilize third-party functionality. For additional information about third-party software used in this product, see the Read Me. Please contact your Genesys Customer Care representative if you have any questions.

This release includes the following correction or modification.

The Twitter Driver now downloads the entire followers and friends lists before starting to deliver inbound messages and starting to request processing. Previously, if the followers or friends lists contained more than 75000 members, the driver failed to download the list. As a result, the driver failed to mark inbound messages with the correct a message�s author is follower and a message�s author is friend attributes. (SMD-1368).

• Ability to work with tweets that have an image attached
• Allowance for users to choose either REST or Stream API to retrieve Twitter public or user messages through a monitor channel
• Support of unsolicited Twitter messages functionality of Interaction Workspace Plug-in for use with Twitter
• The qry-<...> option was removed in this release. Previously the str-track-<...> and qry-<...> options had to be set to the same value. Now only the str-track-<...> option is needed.

Corrections and Modifications

Twitter Driver now correctly retrieves sent tweets. In the previous version, Twitter Driver incorrectly retrieved tweets sent to friends that were not part of the search query. (ER# 307612256)

• This release adds the following new options to the Twitter media monitor section (this section will typically be called something like channel-twitter-a-monitor):

  control-str-user
  Default value: on
  Valid values: on, off
  Changes take effect: After restart
  

  Specifies whether the user data stream is (on) or is not (off) used. The user data stream delivers the following types of messages: messages from the media channel�s home time line, messages with mentions of the channel�s account, and direct messages to the channel.

  control-str-public
  Default value: on
  Valid values: on, off
  Changes take effect: After restart
  

  Specifies whether the public messages data stream is (on) or is not (off) used. The public data stream delivers messages that are specified by the str-follow-<any name> and str-track-<any name> options.

Twitter Driver now uses the message fetching procedure "max_id & count & since_id", in accordance with Twitter recommendations. Previously, Twitter Driver used the "page & count & since_id" method, which multiplied the number of requests to Twitter while fetching direct messages over the REST API. Twitter Driver now checks messages using the account ID rather than the account name. Previously, using the account name sometimes led Twitter Driver to retrieve the same mention message from two different channels and submit it for processing. This happened in the following scenario:

• There was the following combination of options settings:
  • get-home-timeline = false
  • get-mentions = true
• Two accounts had similar names; for example, AcmeProducts and AcmeProducts111.
• Both accounts were followers of the channel that submitted the mention message.

Known Issues and Recommendations

This section provides the latest information on known issues and recommendations associated with this product.

When the Driver executes search queries, consistency of results is not guaranteed, because of issues with the Twitter Search API. For information about known problems with the API, see Twitter's API Issue Tracker at http://code.google.com/p/twitter-api/issues/list.

The following two options are missing from the eServices 8.1 Reference Manual version 8.1.301.00 (they are correctly described in the 8.1.203.00 version of the Reference Manual). They belong in the channel-<any name>-monitor section for the Twitter media channel.

control-str-public
Default Value: on
Valid Values: on, off
Changes Take Effect: After restart

Specifies whether Twitter Driver uses the public messages data stream. If on, the stream is used. If off, the stream is not used.

Note: The public data stream delivers messages that are specified by the options str-follow-<any name> and str-track-<any name>.

control-str-user
Default Value: on
Valid Values: on, off
Changes Take Effect: After restart

Specifies whether Twitter Driver uses the user data stream. If on, the stream is used. If off, the stream is not used.

Note: The user data stream delivers home timeline tweets, tweets with mention of a channel account, and direct messages.

The str-track-<...> and qry-<...> options must be set to the same value. The qry-<...> option controls SEARCH REST API data fetching, while str-track-<...> controls STATUS STREAM API data flow. Both data flows must be configured identically with the same requests because the Driver switches inbound messages flows between SEARCH REST API and STATUS STREAM API.

When you install this component, the following misleading dialog occurs: Please choose which application to install. The dialog should instead state: Please choose the Social Messaging Server application for the driver to be installed. (ER# 263254533)

Discontinued Support

Solaris 9, AIX 5.3, and Linux RHEL4 are no longer supported.
